It was a criminal prosecution, not a civil suit, so i don't think there was an award to the victims, other than the conviction and sentencing - that was not much but at least something.

Confession Time - Music You're Embarrassed to Admit Listening To
by Simon inadmit it, we all have things that we reel off when people ask what our favourite music is, just the same as if people ask what our favourite movies are.
we're meant to say "citizen kane" and "casablanca" and not "battleship" or "pacific rim" but we know what we're going to watch if they are ever on tv at the same time (and which ones we've never actually seen).. so how about some confession time?
what do you listen to when no one else is in the house?.

This is funny - the other day i couldn't get that song from The Goodbye Girl out of my head, and was trying to find out who sang it - David Gates! I hadn't thought of that movie and song in years, and here it pops up.
The music I love when nobody else is around, is barbershop harmony. Also Glen Campbell albums and soundtracks from musicals.
My family and I do have a lot of music in common like jazz, but the mostly the Beatles. My granddaughter says, if somebody doesn't like the Beatles they can't come into my house!

This has been a fun read!
The Oxi-clean detergent i bought in '03, i think it was - caused my clothes to disintegrate with no warning. I was bending over a picnic cooler and suddenly heard my 3-year old granddaughter, in a very hesitant voice, telling me she could see my "buttie."
Remember "Eggies?" Little plastic gizmo for making boiled eggs without having to peel them. I thought it would be so great because we used to have deviled eggs all the time. As I opened the box and read the extensive directions, i saw there was no saving time at all, using this outfit.
First, each little eggie had 4 separate plastic pieces to be assembled and then disassembled after using, to clean them. Then, before you can crack an egg to put in the gizmo, it had to be coated with oil. There was a chart explaining how long to cook for the doneness you wanted - All the times were longer than a 3-minute egg! And then to top it off, once the eggs had boiled for the recommend times, you couldn't just pop it open, no. You had to wait a few minutes for the steam to subside so you didn't get a 3rd degree burn.
I packed it all up and returned for a refund. The prospect of setting eggs to boil and then peeling them seemed a lot easier!

We disassociated about six years ago and my husband was indifferent before that. But i was way more involved the whole time we were "in" (since 1985) and feel like i'm still peeling away layers of mind control. There are days that I never think about it now, so that seems like a lot of healing has been accomplished.
I've learned a lot about myself since leaving the cult, like how i don't really need all the stuff and silly crap that i used to believe was needed.
I was happy about the ARC and now looking forward to the civil lawsuits coming up. I enjoy reading and watching anti-JW activism. If I can be helpful to others seeking info, or disentangling themselves, then it's very satisfying.

If You Could Live In Any Era or Decade What Would It Be?
by minimus ini kind of like the 50’s and early 60’s because of the innocence and “happy days” outlook by that generation.
it seems most people were pretty innocent and real.. would you rather be living in a different era or is this century working for you?

Involved(ish) with a JW Man.
by BNG-713 ini know there are several posts about witnesses and non-witnesses in regards to relationships.
i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.
earlier this year, i became friends with someone on a video game.

Today on Twitter I received a note from a non-JW who is married to a born in, and they are in a battle for custody. He has read my views as an X-JW, and contacted me as well as several others, for any advice or recommendations of helpful people or literature that could help his lawyer help him. He wants full custody of his little daughter and knows that it's going to be difficult, but he is desperate for his ex-wife not to alienate him from his daughter.
Why did a born-in woman marry a non-JW, and then go back to her religion when her daughter came along? And then seek divorce and custody because he refuses to join her religion? Because that's what they do, more times than not.

Old southern (U.S.) sister, lived with her son. They didn't have a car, so there was always a debate going on, who was picking up Clara or who was taking Clara out in service. When we moved there to that cong, i saw a bunch of woman coordinating to dump the problem in my lap. It was not long before i saw why everyone was trying to get away from her.
She had a huge carry-all which she took to every door, stuffed with 100 or more magazines. If the householder refused to take the offer, she started in scolding them, how they were going to hell when they died. I wanted to die of embarrassment. Back in the car, I told her several times that wasn't the way we were supposed to talk to people. She said, "Well if they don't become Jehovah's Witnesses, aren't they going to die and go to Hell?"
Then, the way to her house was confusing. I asked her to tell me when to turn. She wouldn't say something like, It's coming up soon. No, she would wait until I was about to pass the turn, then suddenly clap her hands and yell, "TURN HERE, TURN HERE!"
Once she was assigned to me for a talk. I didn't have time to drive to her house and rehearse, I was working a full time job. So i just prepared it for my little daughter to help me. OH MAN when we got to the hall that night, Clara came marching up to me all huffy, and said HOW do you expect me to know what to say in your talk! You never came and rehearsed with me!
I told her she didn't need to be upset because I was having my daughter do it. She went looking for an elder and I saw her pointing at me and jawing at him. He motioned me over and asked why I didn't have Clara for the talk. I explained everything and he looked at her and said, "She's not going to need you tonight." Clara was spitting mad, and hollered at the elder, "WELL! I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THAT, AND I'VE BEEN IN THIS ORGANIZATION FOR THIRTY YEARS!"
The elder told me that there used to be a rule that the sister had to use the helper assigned to her for the talk, but it was okay what i was doing.
In the hall we had just been in, that stuff didn't bother the elders at all, the sisters could do whatever they wanted about all that. But that Clara, she had been intimidating everyone for years and scared everyone so they didn't want to upset her. She was one who made everyone else absolutely miserable.

Most of the people i rode with were TERRIBLE drivers. If there was carpooling to be done I always insisted on driving.
There were sisters without cars riding every day with elderly sisters who scared everyone to death, wavering back and forth in their lane, turning in front of oncoming cars, etc. But they thought they were safe because the angels would protect them in field service! There were many minor accidents but that didn't stop parents from letting their kids ride with impaired drivers.
Lots of drivers out in field service would try to read their maps or notes while driving!

YAY for the great moms who resisted pressure to make kids grow up riding around in a car, pioneering.
I knew several families who did that and observed the kids spending the entire day in the back seat being told to finish their homework.
Rush to the kh, pick up a one or two people to go along. Make a stop at a laundromat to start time; head for the nearest doughnut shop where the kids had sugar for breakfast.
Run a couple quick errands and ride to the territory.
Couple hours later, stop for lunch where the kids drank a gallon of soda with their burgers and fries while the adults had a gabfest and ignored the kids some more.
It's not a healthy way to raise kids.
